This work was made using a performative action of throwing gouache made by the artist over a net cut from plastic. It has been stretched in a relaxed way, so the canvas accentuates the movememebt of the paint pigment. The “net” traced the spaces between an arrangement of non tessellating objects.

In subtle shadowy tones this drawing preserves the blurry shapes originally made by cleaning marker pen off a work in progress - a net on plastic. Layers of coloured pencil retain these forms, which left in their original marker pen medium, would have faded in sunlight.

This transfer painting’s winding forms transform an arrangement of non tessellating forms rather like a journey or path. In making a previous painting, a design for a stencil was printed on paper. Later, the traces of the printer ink on the design were embedded into a gessoed canvas using a transfer process where the artist’s hands rub and rub until the paper disappears and only the ink is left. Rather than painting out areas where the transfer has been imperfect, or the paper has been joined, this work deliberately retains these to reveal the process.
